Is anyone here going to the Hostelworld Conference this month?
Have you been to other Hostelworld Conferences in the past?
Do you find them useful for information and networking?

I won´t be there this time but 5 others from our staff. I don´t find them particularly useful for "information" but it´s a good opportinity to meet other hostel managers/owners from all over the world. In addition, flights to Dublin are cheap and end of January is a time when nobody is bery busy anyway. The evenings are certainly worth to go there! :cool:

Temple Bar is worth for a visit... ;) Which is the name of the area, although there is a bar called Temple Bar! :D
We wanted to have some typical Irish cousine at the first night and after an hour ended up some "Italian" restaurant! :(
If you want an "authentic" feel, the Arlington Hotel is on the riverside, it offers a live country band and some Irish step dance for no covers, the cousine is Irish, good, not pricey and the drinks are correct as well. Worth for the atmosphere! Also the Oliver St John Cogarty Pub has some live bands...
But all these are nothing comparing the countryside! If you have time, have couple of days in Cork, Galway, maybe Sligo... also much cheaper and interesting! :cool:

i cant find anything about WRI (owners of HW and a few otehr sites) being owned by anyone but themselves... but apparently some private equity company has been throwing money at them.
i have a stange feeling lastminute and expedia have a connection though...

I haven't heard anything about it, but WAYN may be acquired by AOL soon -- for $200 million... Kayak bought Sidestep recently...
Probably only a matter of time before someone buys WRI...

I thought that it was interesting that Lonely Planet just changed Haystack to "Lonely Planet Hotels". I wonder if it was related to the BBC sale.

How much are they making? I've read different reports. I think the last one I read was close to $30 million per year.
The company would have a very big price tag...
