After much planning, obstacles, heartaches, we can say that we are now close to launching our small and humble backpackers hostel in Singapore!
Following through the good practices/suggestions - we wanted to open up for bookings at least a month in advance to the openning date.
Problem: hostelworld doesn't seem to be responding to our application. It has been more than a week now and we have not heard or received any replies from them. Is this a known thing - I thought we were supposed to be contacted within 48 hours? :(
Hostelbookers on the other hand have been quick to respond and we managed to get the hostel published within a few days.
Is there a way for us to be in touch with the folks at hostelworld?

Mine is in Singapore and it's called 'a beary good hostel'. Quite a contrast to yours in terms of the name... :). but similarly to yours we are quite fortunate to be in a central tourist location with the subway/train on our doorstep.
We have an aggressive plan to open our doors by 14th Feb. It's quite a challenge what with the renovations and all... but we shall see.

Hi guys
Interesting enough to know that HW has taken longer than it should be to activate your hostel. How long in advance do you suggest to get registered and contact them? There is any possibility of doing it well before, have everything set up and just wait for the right moment then to be showed up as an available hostel offering beds? or when you registered with them need to have everything ready?

Hi JC,
In my opinion, it would be good to setup the account at least a month earlier before your launch. At least to generate early bookings and raise the awareness. At that point, ideally you have some photos to put up, an idea on the facilities and services you will be offering.
I don't think there will be too much delay on HW side when you first contact them. We were just unlucky to have hit them at a time when they were all busy with the conference. Cheers

Speaking from personal experience- if you want to use their BMS- I advise that you start at least THREE months before you open(!)
I am two & a half months into 'trying' to trial their 48 hour trial without success. Numerous emails back & forth- sometimes no response & any response seems to take a week.
Although, the quickest response I've received to date is an 'out of office' auto reply! Our listing went live very quickly tho!
I feel like Iv'e received every excuse under the sun about why the 'test' BMS doesn't work- from 'because you're using a Mac' to 'it's your browser' to 'it's a conflict with your antivirus'.
I've countered these by using a Windows machine. I know our browser is compatible & up to date & the Windows machine is running industry standard antivirus AND(!) actually, the Mac isn't running antivirus because (according to it's owner & he also knows a thing or too...!) the virus programmers are not a threat to Macs- it's simply not a viable option for them!
They seem to assume (WRONGLY) that every one of their customers is 100% ignorant about IT in general. Even if you tell them that actually you know javascript, flash & dreamweaver etc..etc.. and send them screenshots to to support your findings that the issue is because all the buttons links point to the ... index page so they're not going to go anywhere because you're already on the index page...(!) DUH- they then request to open a Team Viewer session to gain access to your machine to see for themselves- screenshots not proof enough! If they can't write their software, do ya think I'm gonna trust them accessing our machines over the internet...?? I don't think so!
And, yes, I hve asked them to just launch us live with the live BMS- FOUR times and.... you've guessed it- still waiting! :0#
