maybe they will wait 5 months more and everyone will start fresh with:eek: a 0% rating.
I'm joking , I'm joking...:)
be great if they were implementing Hostels Review Ideal

Another bug:
This hostel below has new management. They started with clean ratings and the first one was a 100%. Still, the average of categories equal to 77%.

So 1 time 100% equals 77% according to HW.

Hostelbookers had a similiar issue recently with the total percentage not adding up correctly (over 100%)...
I'm seeing some Hostelworld reviews from Aug 5th and 7th. Are the latest reviews showing yet?

I find the new design to be more familiar and its functionality has definitely increased. I'm sure that there are bugs as it is a new website. Hopefully all the problems will be resolved soon.

Another change is that instead of listing hotels mixed in with hostels in some cities, the default views seem to list only hostels now.
I think it's a great improvement. Are other people seeing the same thing?

It looks like another feature is the "People who liked this hostel also liked these hostels" feature:

It looks like that feature might be in the early stages because it's unlikely that most travelers will book multiple hostels in a single city, but it might be moving towards more matching technology.
Tripadvisor is doing interesting things with matching reviews to users, also using Facebook.

A suggestion for the new website -- The problem isn't with the website as much as checking to make sure properties really have dorm beds before placing them in the "hostel" category.
Here's one example:
IMPORTANT! ALL of our rooms are PRIVATE. If you reserve a Triple room, you are agreeing to pay for all three people.
That's not a hostel. In this case, it's a YWCA with only private rooms that is calling itself a hostel.
It is reflected in the reviews:
"It's not really a hostel, It's a Residence..."
"This isn't a hostel, its a YMCA - that should be made clear on the website"
"This is not a hostel, it is a run-down institution/hospital! Patients walk down the corridors wearing nothing but their bathrobes."
"This is a room in a halls of residence."
"More of a hotel rather than hostel so wouldn't go here if travelling alone and looking to meet people."
"Seems like more of a long term residence for students, old ladies and freshly released prisoners rather than a hostel."
"Really a budget hotel not a hostel."
Sorry to single out a specific property (one of many), but it's an example of how the misuse of the word "hostel" just hurts hostels everywhere. Reading the reviews, it's obvious that many people are led to believe they are staying at a hostel...

As I mentioned above, seems they are alot of
"Anonymous (Country Unknown) (Gender Unknown) 03 Aug 2010/" instead of the reviewers name.
It may have something to do with security as we have been asked NOT to mention the guest name in our replies. (first name or full name).Any clarification about this would be handy.
I would imagine that the request not to use customers’ names is yet another result of Hostelworld falling under American laws now, just like their inability to list Cuban hostels.
Here’s what Hostelworld tells hostels:
Responding to Customer Comments
Due to Data Protection regulations, we are required by law not to post any personal customer data on hostelworld.com. When responding to Customer reviews, please do not use any personal data belonging to any customer in your response. Personal data includes first and last names, email, passport number and Credit Card numbers.
If you mention any names your buddy will now remove them before they post your Owner’s Comments.
I don’t think that using someone’s first name compromises their privacy at all, especially when they choose to post a public review of the hostel. This rule does nothing but limit the hostels’ ability to make a personal response, which I think is important for good customer service. I would imagine that Hostelworld probably finds it as annoying as I do though, because it discredits their entire review system if all submissions are anonymous.

Interesting... I wonder if they could get out that requirement by having users create a username when they book. If they fill out their "public profile" they could list "user X" from "Madrid" left the following review...

Either it was a short experiment or wasn't happening on all cities. I'm seeing other cities now that show hotels in the default list even when there are plenty of hostels. I cleared cookies just to be sure.
