We use mattress encasements (waterproof, zipped, anti bed bug, etc). And the same for pillows. So we don't have such problems.
Hi guys! This is my first post. I was pretty excited when I found the site.
I was wondering if any of you have experience just freshening up a mattress? I found a thread about cleaning out urine, but really I just want to sun it, but it's too big to get on the porch. Any suggestions of products or methods of keeping a mattress from getting musty?
Cheers!

It probably depends on how bad the musty smell is. Airing out the room itself may help to some extent, and running a dehumidifier near the bed is a good idea if it’s a humid area. Swatting the mattress like a rug to get rid of dust can remove some of the musty smell. Sprinkling it with baking soda and letting it sit for a few hours before vacuuming it off is a frequent recommendation. A rub down with detergent and a small amount of water could help to freshen it up. Sprays like Febreze help to eliminate odors, if you can buy something like that in your area.
If the mattress smells like mold, you could try using a mold spray, but most likely the whole thing should be replaced in case it is spreading on the inside.
I saw a hostel sunning mattresses on their roof because they didn’t have space in their courtyard. If your porch isn’t big enough, maybe that would work for you to get the mattresses out in the sun for a while.

I think you may be able to find some good advice using this article I linked out to a few minutes ago.
I know you won't need this since it's been so long but it might be good for others that come to this site to look for additional ways to get rid of their stains on their mattresses.
