How to convince the city/neighbors that opening a hostel is a good idea

Sometimes when people try to start hostels, they meet resistance from city and/or from neighbors. I thought it would be useful to have a definitive page on how hostels benefit towns/cities and local economies that people could use to convince local officials and neighbors on the benefits of opening new hostels.

I started it as a wiki page so that anyone can edit it and add new information:
What Hostels Are and How They Benefit Local Economies

• "What Hostel Are" -- because many city officials and neighbors may have any idea what a hostel is
• "How They Benefit Local Economies" -- because hostels can bring in more income and bigger-spending tourists than hotels (due to the typically longer length of stay of backpackers)

Since the page of information is intended to convince skeptical people, I think it's important to list credible references.
