I'm Aviana. I'm 21yo and I, along with my fellow backpacker, would like to open up a hostel (hopefully in Prague, CZ) however i don't have the slightest clue on the first thing to do.
I'm currently still enrolled in college/university in New York, and have about a year left until i get my BA in Fashion Merchandising. After that's all over and done with i'd like to get started on starting my hostel.
We're both fairly young & inexperienced and pretty clueless on how to begin the process, however this has been our dream for some time now and we're very serious about our future in the hostel business.& although it may seem that we're more age appropriate to be the girls organizing the pub crawl rather than opening the hostel, we know that this is what we could spend the rest of our lives doing.
If anyone can give us a few tips on the best way to get started, or to get the ball rolling, it'd be much appreciated.

I think the best way to learn is to go work in a couple of hostels... in addition to using the forum and resources on HostelManagement.com as much as possible ;)

I will second Hostels comments. Get some experience working in some Hostels for some period first. Also look at the market in Prague and see how many hostels are operating in the area and what they are offering in terms of space and service.

Hostelworld lists 93 hostels in Prague (in comparison, LA has 19 and Miami has 8). If it turns out that Prague is too competitive, there might be other good places in Czech Republic to open a hostel.
It's still possible to survive with 93 other hostels, but it would be good to check a few things during the planning: e.g., whether Hostelworld/hostels.com would list you (despite their slogan, they don't list all hostels anymore in cities with a lot of hostels).

thanks! i'll start looking into hostels in NYC and see if they need any part-time employees.
i'll also check out the competition in Prague, and see if there's not another less saturated city we'd be interested in opening in.
