I have been looking more into reviews on TA and found this pretty interesting blog:
http://tripadvisorwatch.wordpress.com
It is a little bit one-sided but still interesting reading.
A recent customer said they have written a review of our place on TA, but it has been almost a week and I can't find the review.
Do reviews get published immediately or is there an approval process?
The client wrote the review while they were staying at our place using our wifi, so I wonder if that would be a problem, because it could look like we wrote the review.

I think I know now why the review isn't showing. The guest wrote the review using while they were staying at our place. It seems that TA thinks if the IP of the reviewer is the same as the hotels, TA thinks that this is one of the hotel's staff! Perhaps in the early days this was a problem, but I can't see that now this is a good way to detect a fake review.
The owners section of TA is also interesting to read through. It seems that perfectly valid reviews sometimes get taken down by TA. I am thinking of installing a guestbook on my site and just encouraging people to leave comments there and if a guest books through a site like HB, to ask them to write a review there.

I think guestbooks are a great idea. If you have even a paper guestbook by the front desk, you could post the best comments online...

I added the Guestbook and now had our first entry: http://www.mumbul.net/guestbook
I think it is a better option than directing people to TA who may or may not publish the review. I read in the owner's forum that sometimes positive reviews are even taken down months after they went online.
Since we are one of the few places that offers free wifi most guests have laptops/ipads/iphones, so I don't think I will even bother with a paper guest book.
