I forgot to mention this because it wasn't in the blog post, but Marco from TFThostels.com also has a related buzz-monitoring service called TraceBuzz.

I've used socialmention very successfully for the past 2 years, especially in putting together the hostel newsletter - thanks for the link. However, it seems to have gone downhill rapidly:
Much slower loading.
Full of video and photo content and no blogs!
Many of the links lead nowhere.
I know there are many blogs that mention the hostel in the past 12 months. Please, does anyone know how to find them?

Do you use Google Alerts?
If that doesn't work, try a Google Search like in the images below.
Choose "Blogs" in the sidebar:
Choose "Posts" and "Sort by date":
You can also use advanced search operators like this.
Example of search operators:
myhostel "Miami" site:lonelyplanet.com
That means search only lonelyplanet.com for your hostel's name, and the page must contain the word, Miami. Search operators also work in Google Alerts.

I forgot to mention -- you can scroll to the bottom of the Google Search results and subscribe by RSS/Atom, add to Google Reader, or setup the Google Alert right from there. Screenshot below:
