My boyfriend and I arrived to Kokopelli for our last night in Lima after getting back from Cusco (extremely exhausted). We arrived around 10 AM and the guy at the front desk asked us for our names, passports etc. and it seemed that for some reason he could not locate our reservation, I proceeded to show him the confirmation I was given when I made the reservation two and a half months before. He told me not to worry that their check in time was at 2 PM (Which they had not mentioned before at all) and my room would be ready by then. The guy told us to leave our luggage with them in a storage and we even left them our laundry. He then reassured us everything would be fine and that our room would be ready. I'm extremely picky about where I stay and I specifically chose kokopelli after extensive research because it seemed like the best place to stay in the area, especially for the value. At around 5 PM I called the hostel to let them know I was on my way and to see if my laundry was ready. To my unpleasant surprise, the lady who answered the call told me my room was no longer available and that they reserved a room for me in another hostel. I quickly asked to speak to the manager. His explanation was that since they had a new reservation system, my reservation was lost, I then asked him how he decided to give my reserved room to someone else, considering that I had made my reservation 80 days before! His response was that since the other guests were staying longer, they got priority. I was not convinced by his reasoning and was not too happy about being cheated in this way. He told me they made a reservation at his friend's well-known, very good hostel, I then asked him for the name of it and he was not able to tell me. Quite frankly, because of their disorganization they "lost" my reservation and decided to book me at some random hostel without my consent. He clearly displayed his unprofessional behavior by admitting to choosing who got the room by who was going to get him more $$$ instead of who made the reservation first. When I refused his solution of staying in a random hostel that I'd never heard of (after all my research), he spoke to me aggressively and told me I was ungrateful and not understanding that people make mistakes. I chose where I wanted to stay considering our safety and kokopelli's profit driven instead of customer first actions were completely inconsiderate of that. My suggestion is to go with another place because apparently kokopelli's word is not one to confide in. DISORGANIZED, UNPROFESSIONAL, UNETHICAL.
