I was adding the the Start a Hostel guide and wanted to write something about key cards vs. metal keys.
What kind of key system do you use at your hostel? Do you prefer metal keys or electronic key cards?
What size does a hostel have to be before they might want to get a key card system?

Would it be okay to write in the code on a card that also says the room number?
I would imagine so, especially if there is some kind of security check when people come inside to verify that they are guests. If a random person found the card and punched in the code, could they get access to the room or just to the reception?

I am having trouble getting Ving Card installed. I got a pretty good quote but my door stile is 4.5" before it descends into a panel. Ving Card needs 5". Anyone else have this problem? My doors are standard 6 panel doors. Im having a hard time believing that I am the only one who has run into this problem. I looked into getting new doors. way too expensive. Any other options? I talked with Hafele but they quoted $14k for 10 doors. Way out of my range.

We are working with metal keys at the moment but want to switch to keycards. We have two hostels (25 + 14 rooms).
Anyone has a global number of investment I need to think of when considering we need to adjust 39 doors + the front door inclusing some keycard management software?
I read a lot about vingcard which seems a solid system and also would work with our PMS.
I hope to hear your experiences and best practise.
