Here is a hostel using Ustream to post live video footage on their hostel blog:

YHA on the Rocks in Sydney has an interactive webcam on its roof http://www.yha.com.au/hostels/nsw/sydney-surrounds/sydney-harbour/
apparently theres bee a bit of controversy as the rooftop attracts a lot of people tanning in the sun and the camera's been used for perving on them.

it looks like st christophers has shut down the webcam they had in a dorm room - presumably for the same reason.

bit different to live blogging i guess; but i do like the idea of using live media to interact with guests and potential guests.

Interesting. Great idea. Any thoughts on how search engines might like this type of blog content? Looks like a good twitter strategy as well. Especially if the live streams are then edited and archived in the blog post with some searchable keywords etc.

We've got live video that we access from our smartphones to keep an eye on things in the common areas, kitchens and hallways.

Google will index video content in the future. They were testing a feature on YouTube where they converted the speech to closed captioning, so the technology exists. In the meantime Google tracks how long people spend on a website, so posting videos may tell search engines that the website is worth spending time on. It's definitely good for Twitter and the blog...
