Most Inspiring Travel Destinations

Following up on the thread of most uninspiring travel destinations, what are the most inspiring destinations you've been to? Any lesser-known places?

I liked Taiwan (my last trip). Taipei is inexpensive and very interesting. There are large wilderness areas and many aboriginal cultures. Sun Moon Lake in central Taiwan is nice.
