I think it´s odd. Who cares about my father´s first name?
I think the Spaniards have the better solution - it avoids those silly double hyphen surnames which are no so common in the German-speaking countries.
EDIT: This thread is a continuation of the discussion that left off here. -- Josh

Csaba, thanks but I have found an effective chemical available locally.
Please put details of the next Balkans trip in the MC (Members Chat) - Josh you missed that one or is it going to be VIPL?
No problems... I indeed still owe you some of the Balkan photos, some interesting stories and the plan for the second trip, although I promise I'll share everything as soon as the rush is over!

Talking about names, What do you think about the Icelandic patronymic names?
Very interesting:
"First names that have not been previously used in Iceland must be approved by the Icelandic Naming Committee before being used."
Same in Germany. Some people would otherwise give their children the most silly names. Like Sarah Palin.

She is off the scene now... or at least will be very soon! :D
Few Alaskan papers are reporting that Sarah Palin resigned as the state’s governor because she has a big scandal on the way.Sarah Palin is reportedly facing indictments for using money that was supposed to fund the construction of the Wasilla Sports Complex to build her own house.

She´s such a stupid cleptocrat that it puts African dictators to shame.
Imagine McCain would have won and died sometime soon. We missed so much world-class entertainment!

I´m sure she would have done stuff we couldn´t even think of when we´re stoned. It´s a pity. She´s a one-in-a-century-moron, even in America. :D

And this my friends is "How to de rail a post one comment at a time"
By Mr Santa and Sir Aboriginal.
Thanks guys!
By the way: Gonzalez, Fernandez, Lopez and other names that end in "ez" mean son of.
Gonzalez is son of Gonzalo (a very common name in south america) Fernandez is son of Fernando, etc.
If you are de railing we might just finish the tragedy together jajajaj
Corruption? Oh, using funds for personal projects it´s just a normal thing around here. It´s sad but true and common

No sabía... :o
My point was: sometimes women don´t want to give up their maiden name when they marry (I wouldn´t want that either), so if a Meier marries a Schmidt, the husband´s name is still Meier, but the wife´s (AND children´s!) name will be Meier-Schmidt or Schmidt-Meier. That sounds really silly.
This creates problems in the long run, because if the daughter of Mrs Schmidt-Meier eventually marries the son of Mrs Huber-Müller, their children might end up named Schmidt-Meier-Müller-Huber.
That´s why I think the Spanish solution is much better than that.
