It might not have anything to do with this topic but i have been booking through hostelworld for years and this year and exactly 2 weeks ago, i tried to book a hostel in Malaga and i was rejected because of my nationality! Is it a new trend to descrminate people of a country because the regime is a dictatorship?

Strange that US companies would have a restriction on who buys from them. I'm guessing that it is the fault of US law, and not Hostelworld's decision. (Hostelworld is now owned by a US company...)

yes thank you! I was surprised too because as i said i had booked with them several times and this is not acceptable! I understand that it stems from the US law and i find it unfair!

Reserve through hostelbookers.com - they are British so you should not have the same problem.

I checked Hostelworld by starting to make a booking and, sure enough, they ask for your nationality. I checked Hostelbookers and the same box is present.
I don't remember having to state nationality when I booked through either of these in the past. This is a worrying trend. If arbitrary things like the above happen, this adds to the reasons why guests might prefer to book directly via the hostel's website.

Nit just that you need to check the box for nationality but they check through your credit card information!!!!! And even if check another nationality they will find it out in 2 seconds through the CC! I did not know that all my information were checked for a hostel booking within seconds!

I don´t think so. We get HW bookings from "Antarctica" once in a while. That´s not even a country and has no citizens.
