I am currently in a closing period on a property to start a hostel in the US. My city does not have any defined rules on the number of parking spaces required for a hostel. (They currently lump hostels in with Hotel/Motel).
I was wondering if any other hostel owners have any stats on what percentage of hostel guests arrive in cars. I am meeting with the city next week and would like to have as much info as possible to make a case that hostels do not need anywhere near the parking that a hotel/motel does.
My hostel will be just over 100 beds and there is room for 10 parking spaces on-site, as well as plenty of street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. Does this sound like a reasonable amount of parking?

10 parking spots plus additional street parking for 100 beds sounds reasonable to me.
A motel probably has to have at least one parking spot per room. A hotel wouldn't necessarily have that requirement. In the European hostel market the majority of travelers arrive by bus or train, not by car. In the US the distances are bigger and the transportation system is different, so you will probably have a lot more guests driving in.
