I previously wrote about the Facebook Like Button in another post. There is now a better and easier way to do it. Just copy this code into your site and it will do everything automatically:
OPENLIKE.Widget()
The code is from OpenLike.org and shows "Like buttons" for other websites in addition to Facebook. If you only want it to show Facebook, see the documentation.
An example can be seen on any forum thread right under the "post reply" button...
OpenLike is a simple way to tell other sites about the things you like and dislike on the web. Instead of having all of your preferences stored by a single company, OpenLike gives you a way to send your data where you want it.

The OpenLike button was really easy for me to install. I have also kept links to my Facebook fan page and Twitter follow links as I understand they have a different role to the Openlike buttons.
It would be nice if the Openlike buttons showed the number of people who like/stumble a page. It would also be great if it would include additional links for other social networks like MySpace, Bebo and WAYN. But I'm happy it includes Stumbleupon, I get loads of traffic from that site.

I do wish there were some better styles for the Like button though.

This is an excellent solution, much better than the what facebook officially provides.
You can also determine which "like" button you use.
This is an example for my code:
OPENLIKE.Widget({s: ['facebook','twitter', 'google', 'digg'],header: 'Recommend to your friends:'})
I've added it at the bottom of everypage of my website

Another advantage of this solution is that on ASP.net websites this script automatically detects the internal url and title of the page.
