General Hostel Operations

Thank goodness for this site...I've poured over every post and have made mountains of notes with all I've learned from you! So, first...many thanks and kudos!

I'm planning on starting a hostel in Nashville, TN and think I have many of the major details taken care of over the past few months. One thing I'm not sure about is parking spaces. On average, how many Guests typically arrive in vehicles...compared to the number of Guests who arrive by bus or taxi? I'd like to offer off-street parking for all Guests (mainly for my neighbors' sakes), but don't know if an investment in paving part of my yard would be necessary if Guests won't use the additional parking (I currently have room for four vehicles / 24 beds). Bike rentals, moped rentals, and bus passes will be available for those who don't have transportation. But...people who come in cars...yikes. Any thoughts?

Hi Amy,

Welcome to the site.

How long would it take to get a driveway put in? Maybe you could open without it and see if there is demand. If people need the parking you could add the extra parking later.

I think there are a couple of hostels in Nashville. You might be able to get a general idea about parking by driving by them and see how much parking they have. Booking engines like Hostelworld.com and Hostelz.com usually list the number of beds. Both of them look like well-rated hostels. Looks like a promising destination.
