I think that's Pigeon Point. Stayed there back in 1999, fantastic place!
You don't actually sleep in the lighthouse itself, but in those one-storey buildings beside it. There's also a hot tub which overlooks the ocean.
I just came across these photos of one of HI's lighthouse hostels near San Francisco. I'm not sure if it's the Pidgeon Point Lighthouse Hostel or the Point Montara Lighthouse Hostel, but I think it's the Point Montara Hostel...

It looks like a lovely place, I wonder if it is accesable by public Tranportation? I bet it would be a good candidate for a energy independent hostel with the amount of wind that comes of the Pacific ocean. Are the guest allowed in the lighthouse or is it locked?

According to this page - http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=533 - the lighthouse building has been "temporarily" closed to the public since 2001. It was open for tours when I was there, but we didn't have time to take one. Fab place though.

Here's an article from 2 days ago that mentions one of the lighthouse hostels:
Marin Headlands: close enough for comfort
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/04/10/TRDR1632E0.DTL&type=travel
If the Marin Headlands were in the west of Ireland, southern Australia, the French Riviera or any number of other faraway places, they would be high on our list of places to explore. This wild land so close to home offers almost limitless opportunities for outdoor adventure, with many miles of hiking and biking trails, peaks to climb, views that fill your soul as well as your eyes, a historic lighthouse, raptors aplenty, lagoons full of waterfowl and beaches to comb. But because they are right here, just minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge, many Bay Area residents never think of them...
Hostel info:
Marin Headlands Hostel, Building 941, Fort Barry, 80 dorm beds, eight private rooms, (415) 331-2777, fax (415) 331-3568, marinhostel.org, $22 per person and up.

Thanks for the info.
I'm in the Berkeley area at the moment so I'm going to try to visit the lighthouses. I'll post some more photos here if I can make it.
