I ran a "contest" over email open only to former guests that for every review we got indepently of the platform we would give 1 buck to the animal shelter in the place where we live.
Has anyone tried running a contest to promote your hostel?
I recently ran across a contest for a free trip to New York, where the prize included airfare and three nights at Jazz Hostels.
Sometimes hostels or other companies will offer things like iPads or merchandise as the prize for contests that they organize. Offering items of perceived value is a good way to boost general interest. These prizes have to be donated or purchased by the contest organizers though. The idea of offering your hostel itself as the contest prize seems far more beneficial for marketing. It costs you very little, and it sends the message that your hostel is so desirable that people will try to win to chance to stay there. You don’t even have to organize the contest yourself. You could offer free nights in your hostel as a prize for other companies’ contests and let them promote you as well.
-For those of you who have run promotional contests before, how did you structure the contest? What did the contestants have to do, and how did you benefit from it?
-If you offered prizes that had to be donated or purchased, which ones were the most appealing or got you the most return for your investment?
-If you have donated free stays in your hostel for outside contests, what type of companies did you work with, and how much did contestants appreciate the prize?

response/conversion rate was about a 5%, from an animal rights point of view it was a failure, but from a data conversion point of view i think a 5% is acceptable.

Iradacic, if you mean the Jazz hostel competition, I'm not sure which app they are using. I saw the contest on Beerturtle's website rather than in an app.
