I think the guest might be confused(?)
Staff can get into lockers with personal codes also. Or was she worried about guests breaking into it?
Hello all,
So last week I receive a 86% review on Hostelworld (my average is 97%) and I e-mail my client to thank their words and review and also asking if there was any reason for the rating in the security would be a 3 (1 to 5) - I also had 4 in Character and 4 in Fun - because I stayed worried if they filling unsafe in my Hostel and would want to know if something was happened (I give independent keys for everyone for my lockers for free).
The review says this:
"A very, very nice and clean hostel, well located. Enough space in the rooms, every bed has a locker. Staff is very friendley and helpfull. I would defenitly stay there again."
The guest e-mail reply was the following:
"About security in your hostel: I felt safe all the time there. But I usually give 100% on security to those hostels who have safes with a personal code where people cant put things like passport or cash or other things like that. It`s ok to put it into a locker, but a locker can be opened easier than a safe... Hope you understand what I mean. It`s not a big thing, I mean your hostel is just great the way it is already!!"
So my question is, do you think that hostels should have safes with personal code inside the lockers? I know that in Lisbon there are several Hostels that has it...
Thanks for the replys
Bocci

I think guest was worried if a guest breaking it, I guess...
But what I mean is, should Hostels have this Hotels services/standards?!?!
it was the first time someone told me this. And more, my lockers aren't those copper ones, are actually inside lockers, you just have a key, as a door...

Don't take reviews and ratings too seriously. You cannot please all the people all of the time.
If you are happy with your locker system and have not had any security problems so far then stick with what you have. Why go to all the trouble and expense to change the lockers because of one paranoid reviewer.
If I listened to all the reviews then this place would be like Fort Knox; much to the detriment of the atmosphere and character of the hostel.

Our lockers are not in the rooms. They are stationed beside the 24 hr manned reception. School locker type that will make alot of noise if someone was forcing their way into them.
Looking to improve our security rating ( we've never had a problem with theft from the lockers) we installed CCTV camera's on the lockers and in the free long term storage area. In our welcoming speech we say " Lockers are free, you are welcome to use your own lock, there is a 24 hr guard and (Pointing) a CCtv camera on them , Please put all your Gold and Diamonds in them as it is the safest place for them." It usually gets a chuckle from them, and they feel secure with it. It did bring the rating up.
The only time we had to review the tape was when a girl insisted that someone had gone into her locker and taken SOME of her money. So I took her into the office and had her sit down and watch the tape (boring) and I caught up on some paperwork while she watched . She realized after watching that she had come back one evening and had taken the money herself. (alcohol is a funny thing with some people.) She sheepishly apologized.
That instance alone made the investment worth it.
