Should you keep your day job when you open a hostel?
A question came up at the recent Unconference in Tbilisi, Georgia: When you open a hostel, should you keep your day job?
Many people have successful careers established long before they open their hostels. Lawyers, architects, flight attendants, software engineers, hostel operators come from all types of professional backgrounds! Some people still keeps those jobs and continue to work, while others leave them behind when they open their businesses.
If you own a hostel, do you still work another job? Does the money from that job support your personal life, or does it finance your hostel business? What percentage of your time do you spend working in the hostel vs. your other job?
For future hostel owners, do you plan to keep working in another field once your hostel is open?
