Hot off the press:
Five best ... ski hostels
Featured hostels:
- All In One Lodge, St Moritz
- Gite Vagabond, Chamonix
- The Treehouse, Kasberg
- SameSun Hostel, Banff
- The Hostel, Jackson Hole - this doesn't look like a hostel because it doesn't appear to sell dorm beds to single travelers. It apparently starts at $122/night per room.

I was in Bad Gastein, Austria for Xmas and spent a few nights at Euro Youth Hotel before my family arrived. I was really impressed with it - located next to the train station and 5min walk to the cable car, free wifi, friendly staff who would happily take you out drinking and great value at EUR15/25 for a dorm/private including breakfast.
Definitely flashpacking material and made all the better when compared to the apartment I stayed in afterwards where breakfast alone was EUR9:eek:

There are some real budget destinations for such good and relatively expensive sport...
I've read an article about Bosnia becoming such popular place, especially Sarajevo, where the Winter Olympics has been held in 1986... So a lot of good infrastructure, recently renovated again. Week passes are from around 10 quid a day. Sarajevo has about 20 hostels... mostly full of real backpackers.
Slovak Tatras are cheap too, not many hostels though. The only hostel I know there is the Ginger Monkey, located in Zdiar.
