Can anyone give me some information on how to start a home hostel? I am creating a lovely dorm room for 4 people in my home and putting up a tipi. I also have a private daybed for one with private bath. I would like to offer accommodations for 2-3 days and for art retreats. I am an art therapist. I have not found the regulations for hostels on Vermont's Gov. website, but am going to contact other hostels in the state. Does a home hostel have different regulations. I am not wanting to make a lot of money, I am doing this for the enjoyment of it.

Hi Carolyn,
Many places waive the restrictions if you only have a small number of beds. For example, if you only have 10-15 you might not need to have a license or adhere to fire safety regulations. I don't know about Vermont though.
With so few beds it sounds like you would qualify as a Bed and Breakfast, which will probably have different requirements than a hostel would. This .pdf might be a good starting point to find the information that you need.
