I see you have introduced a new format. I don't like it so much, it looks a bit messy, perhaps because there are several different fonts around. What I like least is the font you are using for the text on the header pages: the letters are too close together, they are virtually touching. Words like hilly are terribly squashed, words like 'your' have the letters touching but loads of space within the letters, which makes them sort-of blotchy. Maybe you are still trying out different options: if so, try a bigger letter spacing and it might look much better. I am glad you have retained the old familiar font for the messages as it is so much more comfortable and pleasant to read.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't want to upgrade, but, unfortunately, the forum software was leased and is expiring so I had to upgrade. This new version comes with a default theme that I modified to make a little more like the old style...

I've attached a numbered screenshot -- could you let me know which fonts are looking too squashed? I'll be able to fix the design a bit in the next couple of days :)

First point: This reply box is too short top-to-bottom. I can only see a small part of my reply at one time. This is very inconvenient for this particular reply where I have to keep looking up and down. I have just prepared a longish message with quotes from the relevant page, then it somehow got deleted. So I will send this message in several parts.

When I click your screenshot it displays, but as soon as I click again it disappears and the post that I have started disappears! So I cant swap between them. But as far as your screenshot is concerned, that page is not much of a problem, because the main text is in the old familiar and pleasant font that it has always been.

The main problem is on the page headed Forum or the page headed The Lounge. Here there are some 5 different fonts in close proximity, leading to a messy look.

The font I dislike is the one in the right column, which currently says for the first topic:

I suggest you change this font completely, perhaps by using or modifying one of the other fonts visible at the same time.

The Facebook-type font which says:
Introduce yourself to the members of the forum.

which is fairly important, seems to clash with others and is a bit weak. I suggest you increase to the next point size up. But where this font is used for minor items like place of residence and time, it may be OK as it is.

With regard to the page where the actual messages appear, this is not too bad because the messages themselves (item 7) are easy and pleasant to read. I suggest you might modify the other fonts to be as like they used to be as possible. Sorry I cannot indicate the numbers because I cannot display the screenshot without losing all this message!

Now I see this page, the only item in the 'wrong' font is 'uktrail' or 'Hostels'.

Thanks for the detailed info. I've made the quick-reply box 300 pixels tall instead of 100 pixels.

The "quick reply" loads with AJAX (JavaScript) so if you navigate away from the page and then go back, it's gone.

I know that can be annoying (similar to Facebook) so I've reduced the amount of AJAX used. If it's still a problem, let me know...

I've updated a couple of the fonts:

One way to reduce the chance of losing the post text when replying is to choose, "go advanced" -- that gets rid of the AJAX.

One way to view the screenshots is to either middle click (or Ctrl-click) on them to open them in a new tab, or right click on them and press "w" to open them in a new window (if using Firefox).

I never choose to use Quick Reply. But now, when I click to reply, it takes me to Quick Reply!

So if you can cure this, the enlargement of Quick Reply box is irrelevant to me.

Hostels: I havent yet looked at your replies about changing the fonts, but the immediate look of the pages is very much nicer!
