I see you have introduced a new format. I don't like it so much, it looks a bit messy, perhaps because there are several different fonts around. What I like least is the font you are using for the text on the header pages: the letters are too close together, they are virtually touching. Words like hilly are terribly squashed, words like 'your' have the letters touching but loads of space within the letters, which makes them sort-of blotchy. Maybe you are still trying out different options: if so, try a bigger letter spacing and it might look much better. I am glad you have retained the old familiar font for the messages as it is so much more comfortable and pleasant to read.

I never choose to use Quick Reply. But now, when I click to reply, it takes me to Quick Reply!
So if you can cure this, the enlargement of Quick Reply box is irrelevant to me.
I disabled all AJAX so hopefully that will fix it for now :)
Hostels: I havent yet looked at your replies about changing the fonts, but the immediate look of the pages is very much nicer!

Thank you for making the standard reply form the default instead of the quick reply.
When I come to the site, I often glance down the right hand column of the forums and identify those with a "today" or "yesterday". Currently these words don't stand out readily among several items that are small. Could the word "today" or "yesterday" be made either a little larger, or bold? (If this means that the date also must be bold, that could be OK, although that is not important).

I re-enabled partial AJAX features because the new image upload wasn't working without it. Let me know if you have any issues with it. It's only partial AJAX, not the full AJAX.

I'm still working on making the design more readable and bringing back elements of the old style. I've made the text have more contrast, and give the quotation text a larger font that matches the previous design. More improvements coming soon, but Web design is a time-intensive process so it will take a few days :)

Like how the date of posting on the main forum page is now in bold. Is there any way to make recent posts appear even bolder or in color? So say the word "today" appears darker than "yesterday" which is darker than the posts that have a date in the past as the last post. Would make it easy to scan down the list and see which topics had new posts.

The template doesn't give me any CSS to control the format of the date based on the text. I might be able to highlight the "today" and "yesterday" with yellow using JavaScript if you think it will help.
Also, there are a couple new features I wanted to mention:
There is a new "What's New" button. Clicking on that shows all new content in the Forum as well as the community groups (which anyone can create), blog posts (coming soon) and articles (coming soon). The "New Posts" link is still there, but smaller and in the sub-menu. It only looks for new Forum posts, not content in the other sections.
There's also a Facebook Connect button at the top. Clicking on that lets you connect your Facebook account to your HostelManagement.com account so that you can optionally post your HM content to Facebook.

I'm a bit confused about your comparisons in the screenshots, but I guess these were transitional changes and you've already moved on.
Currently: The view on the page headed "Hostel Management Forums" suffers a bit from having the right-hand column. It means each column is squashed left-to-right, so titles take up 2 lines, and they are still incomplete titles, and even dates can take up 2 lines. The right-hand column is a good idea, although it looks a bit cluttered, with lots of things underlined, many of them split onto 2 lines.
Edited to say: This may be a function of the screen size I use.
The page headed: "Forum: Hostel Stories" (for example) currently has that thin badly-spaced font that I greatly dislike. The bold version of that fault is not bad, but that doesnt mean I'd like to see everything in bold. Please try to make it as much like it used to be as possible.

The page that displays the messages for a given thread is nearly perfect!:)
The smileys are very weak-looking and hardly worth using. :o:):(

If you click the arrow as shown in the screenshot below, it should hide the 2nd column and remember your choice. If it doesn't work, let me know. I enabled the 2nd column to feature the community groups that let anyone make a public or private group on a certain topic.

I'll work on that, but I'm not sure how to turn off quick reply without disabling the new image uploader features. In the meantime, you can avoid the quick reply if you are using Firefox by right-clicking on "reply" and then pressing the "w" key. That will open a regular reply in a new browser window. I'll try to get it fixed, but that will bypass "quick reply" in the meantime.
EDIT: or click "go advanced" to move from "quick reply" to the full reply page...

I know -- the new smilies are awful :)
I tried to put the other ones back but there was a problem with them. I'll see if I can figure out the problem. It was something with anti-aliased edges not matching.
