Thoughts on Iceland?

Hey! New to the site... but I'm considering spending a bit of time in Iceland! I'm an outdoorsy person and bounce between California and Alaska. I also love painting. I just got back from Mexico where I earned my stay by painting huge murals (the biggest one was somewhere around 15-17 ft). So I guess I'm looking for any recommendations on hostels in Iceland that are near adventures (or even a gathering point where I could join up with others of the same mindset), open minded (maybe they'd let me store some gear while I'm off romping in nature?), and artsy so I can try to convince the owner that they should let me paint!
