For your reference I would like to give everyone a great tip to set up a very cost effective wireless network in your hostels: DD-WRT.
DD-WRT is opensource software (yes, it's free) for many different types of routers. If you install DD-WRT on that cheap router, all of sudden that cheap router is now a very useful device.
Our experience -- with DD-WRT we are now able to control the network against people who insist on downloading films and the like. Before, they would blow the network to pieces -- with DD-WRT we can easily control this so they can't do this.
So, no you don't need to buy very expensive hardware or you do not need very expensive support solutions. All you need for a high quality wireless network in your hostel is the right software with the right device.
