Start a Hostel

They say the sky is the limit and so do I also think.

I am a 34 year old guy from Norway who would like to start up a hostel anywhere in the world. Maybe south America?, Europe? I am looking for someone who would like to start up a hostel with me. Are you out there?

Hi Jan, such a comforting thought knowing that there are others out there that share the same goals. I have had this on my mind for quite some time and people just laugh and say I'm crazy when I tell them. I have really fallen in love with Panama and have had my sights on setting something up there. I must add, I'm currently not in Panama, but am working towards getting there. I, like you, would like to find a like minded person who has that sense of adventure, a passion for nature and our environment, a laid back person who thrives on being surrounded in a tranquil environment and that likes to meet new people.

Would you care to share some other thoughts you have?

I'm in the same situation. But was thinking about the Philippines. I'm here now and there is huge potential.

Jon there is huge potential BUT you need the right partner - foreigners cannot own land there and can only own no more than 40% of the business. Research research research is what I say (I worked in the Philippines for 18months and learned A LOT - including setting up a corporation)

Just returned from Da Nang, Vietnam. The hostel market is not so virgin and they have competition there. I am eager to look at South East Asia for hostel biz. I am a former real estate development manager and a hotel video maker so travel sometimes and look for biz chances e.g. hostels.

Hi I´m an American woman from Chicago who has lived and worked at so many hostels in California where my family lives:). I have dual citizenship in Europe and the U.S. and have owned and operated two businesses here in Spain. I would have to encourage you to open a hostel in an extremely busy location which just makes you happy when you arrive.:) With that being said, hostels in Madrid are packed and within Barcelona where I spend a lot of my time yet, on the other hand, you really have to take into account the fact that within the U.S. and specifically L.A. and NY, you will be more packed and that´s the most important thing. Let me know if you have any questions because each country has different laws but the U.S. is definitely more business-friendly than Spain. Joyously here, Sharice
