Hi all
had a guest here and when guest left there was copious amounts of blood on the sheets and mattress, the sheets had to be thrown away and the mattress was scrubbed almost clean and the floors were cleaned as well much to the annoyance of our cleaners who are not nurses and not paid to clean this kind of human bodily fluids..
we are considering charging client who since left $100 for the sheets and cleaning as we have the credit card number on file, btw this was not the result of 'that time of the month'...
what do you think? is this fair what would other hostel owners do..

Credit card companies here in the USA will not allow you to charge for damages after you have discovered them. In other words, if a person or group completely trash a room and then depart (or sneak away), you cannot charge them unless they sign a new charge for the damages which I doubt anyone would.
I'm wondering if anyone has devised any legal wording that would allow damages to be charged from the initial reservation?

well, the credit card companies may not allow it, but we've yet to have a charge be bounced. not that we make a habit of it. most of the time, we tell the person prior to their departure... but i think it's worth a try to charge the card...
so now i'm curious... how is it then that a hotel can charge you after you leave for using the mini bar or taking a bathrobe? they certainly do that in the USA !

I'm going to investigate this and copy as my hostel has gotten burned in the past from bounced-back charges from damages.

Hang on, the check in staff noticed blood on his trousers and still checked him in?!
Errrm...I'd be a bit concerned about bloodstained guests wandering the corridors of my establishment! Granted I've stayed in some of the cheaper London hostels where it looks like an major outbreak of ebola has occurred but generally that's because the patrons have glassed/stabbed each other AFTER check in! (check in usually having been at least 3 years ago!)
