I am thinking about opening up a hostel in Sydney, how can I find zoning laws, when opening up a hostel, what do people buy an apartment building or large house?
With zoning is it in a residential zoned area that is legal or is it a business? How do I find this information, i have been on government sites and am completely lost when it comes to how to find a place to buy.

Your question is the same as mine. Our city offers many options as far as facilities for sale, but all will require modifications in order to ensure there are plenty of bathrooms! Which type of facility is typically the best for conversion to a hostel? At this point I am not concerned with zoning, as the city promotes applications for zoning changes if it encourages business.

Well the first choice for a conversion would be a hotel as it has all the washrooms and most of the facilities you need. You might have to take a couple of rooms to make a kitchen, dining room, tv room etc. Second bet would be an apartment building as once again it would have the bathrooms and kitchens. Any non residential building conversion (offices) will probably force you to upgrade to the newest building standards which can be expensive. Of course that depends on where you are located as some areas are more lenient than others. Good luck.
