I would treat the organisation as you would in a hotel of that size. Do you have an organisational chart currently? What staff, and how many are you employing right now?
Hi, any suggestion on staff level and structure for running a city hostel? We have about 330 bed spaces, but 110 rooms are twin room setting. I used to work in hotels, but no sure the operation mode of a hotel suitable for running a hostel. Welcome to any comments and suggestions. Thx!!!

thx, our hostel will be open in 9 months but we are treating it like a hotel operation. there will be GM, Deputy GM, Front Office Manager + 3 staff, Housekeeping Manager + 13 staff + 4 Security, Engineer + 3 staff, Marketing 4 staff, HR Manager + Accountant + 3 clerks. I have visited a few other hostels and their staff level are far less than our plan.

Wow, that does sound like a large staff. I’m used to working with small hostels that run on minimal crews. I’m curious to hear from some of the bigger hostels to see if this is similar to their staffing setup.
Just to clarify your situation:
You have a total of 330 beds.
You have 110 twin rooms, so 220 beds, right?
Will the remaining 110 beds be dormitory style?

yes, remaining are 4-bed rooms and 8-bed dormitories. it is almost like running a 300-room hotel. But we are planning 24/7 operation, that's why it seems so many staff. any comments?

Hello,
I hope you do not mind my observations based on my best guestimates-
1. allowing £30 say for Twin/Double Room as an average over the year and £15 for Dorms as average.
This gives a Turnover Est 1.8m per Annum with a Occupancy of say 50% (high because you have so many Double/Twin rooms) gives 900,000 gross T/O
2. it looks like 34 Staff? - Seems Crazy! even the avearage wage of 18k from top-bottom that makes -£612k - Must be wrong!!!
3.Elec,Rates,Telephone,Insurance.Paye, Heat...and on and on
Could be 200k +
Please tell me I am completly wrong --Staff overload in my opinion
