Im thinking about opening a hostel in my apartment in nyc.. I have a couple of roommates moving out and I think it would be a great investment financially and also a lot of fun having all these new people come through my place!

Its going to be a very small operation to start.. just 2 rooms with 6 beds total. My main concern is checking people in / out. I obviously dont have room for a front desk / reception area & cant justify hiring staff (other than myself) for such a small operation.

Do you think it will be a problem limiting checkin hours to say 12-8? What do you think would be good checkin hours?

Or would it be better to schedule a checkin time in advance with each person?

Im also afraid ill never be able to leave my appt / go out etc.. what if someone wants to check out and im not around?

I know an apartment hostel like this they just use a regular office desk in the living room.

Im also afraid ill never be able to leave my appt / go out etc..

That is a possibility... maybe better to shut down in the afternoon?

One possibility might be something like:

8am to 12 noon (checkouts)
3pm to 10pm (checkins)
other hours by appointment
