Hi, You can also find a lot of this information online. Hostels usually list their high and low season rates right on the websites. I had the same question too and found my answer by doing some research online. Good luck. :)
I have 2 questions for you hostel owners...
-How many price variations do your hostels have according to the time of year???
-How much do you raise your prices during high season and lower them during low season, percentage-wise???
please mention:
-where your hostel is situated
-which months are those prices in effect (ex: LOW SEASON: September-February
HIGH SEASON: June-August)

I am in Houston TX and we charge 1 rate year round. We do this because if we raise our rates even .05 we have to start charging hotel and motel tax.

In Newquay (UK) - very seasonal.
Summer more expensive than Winter, Weekend more expensive than Midweek.
Tend to attract more workers/holidaymakers than travellers.
Look to see what your competitors are doing (but look with an open mind - your competitors might be stupid).

We only have a £1 surcharge in July/ August. Could probably do with a Friday saturday increase, but am a bit wary of alienating people. Goes back to the whole flexible pricing/ yield managment thing. If you have a major event on do you gouge them for all you can? perhaps, but you do have to be wary of putting people offside.

We want to avoid flexible pricing as it's a pain in the ass and defo not guest friendly. However, due our high competition and various pricing we had to follow the trend. Therefore we have different prices for every month + weekend pricing + special events pricing. This all makes up 25 different prices per room type. These prices are based on previous years' experience and only 6 Euros difference between the lowest and the highest seasonal prices. We don't want to exploit our guests but we also have to reply to the recent conditions... so we are a little bit cheaper during winter and little bit higher during summer.

:D that really made me laugh. We "want" to avoid flexible pricing but, instead, we have the most complicated pricing system imaginable!
I agree, I don't like the idea of bemusing the guests by switching prices around. Luckily quite a few of my competitors here have flat rates.
I was just curious as to what seems to be popular in different cities as some cities have a very seasonal tourist influx and others are more or less steady.

Very sound advice though I wouldn't call my competitors stupid that would not a very nice thing to tell them.

Why would it be complicated? We have a FIXED price list which only changes once every month, weekends are 2EUR higher and the prices are set for room type.
It takes less than 10 minutes to set up the prices to the web and could make 20+% extra revenue.
Do you still think it really doesn't worth the hassle?
