A new hostel/hotel called Mosaic House is opening in Prague. It will be a joint venture between Bohemian Hostels (Sir Toby's, Miss Sophies, Czech Inn) and the Beds and Bars Group (St. Christopher's Inns, Belushi's, Flying Pig).

is anyone else slightly unnerved by the constant expansion of "beds and bars" (as they now call themselves)? first the flying pig got bought out, now bohemia is in bed with the devil! (apologies to anyone from st chris's but theres something about big business and hostels that doesnt sit well with me)

I think you can forget a job at bed and bars now. And you can forget your job when they buy out your employer! :D

Sometimes, when I have drank too much, I have the slightly disturbing thought exactly that´ll happen to me eventually. What a bad trip!
Would you blame the Flying Pig owners for selling out? They probably won´t have to work any more - ever.
So - I don´t call them "the devil" right now. Or at least not until after they gave me the golden handshake! :D

I think big hostels serve two purposes:

they allow us to make a living outside of an office cubicle while saving up to open a small hostel on a beach somewhere :D
Right! That´s why I want that golden handshake!
they attract backpackers to the big hub cities and then feed the backpackers into smaller hostels in more remote regions
I.e. the one I´ll open.
Let´s just hope they won´t piss off the backpackers so much that they´ll rather stay in a B&B in my beach town!

why blame anyone for selling out? we'd all do the same - business is about making money - but its still disapointing on a certain level. Kinda like when people like a musicians 'old stuff but not their new stuff'.

Probably a great hostel. They own the best hostels in Prague (do not speak about my hostel, of course I can`t!), and very nice people too, I guess. New competitors gorwing in recession :D
