I would go to the first 4.
I don't like Brussels, and I hated Liege. Dont know anything about Hasselt.
Hi guys!
I'm new over here, so first of all: congrats with this website full of usefull info.. Have been reading the forum inside out, which can be in some cases a great help.
As I'm planning to open a hostel in Belgium, but still looking for the right location, i've got following question:
If you guys come to Belgium, which cities would you visit? (or have you visited already?)
Antwerp - Gent - Leuven - Bruges - Brussels - Liège - Hasselt
It's so difficult to find a good spot (looking around already for 6 months), which I can still afford to pay for, but it's the most crucial thing for a hostel so I prefer to wait a bit longer instead of choosing too fast...
Thanks for your advice!
By the way: few belgian or dutch members over here?!

I've only been to Bruges and Brussels, so can't really help with the other cities...
Brussels downtown is nice, too bad the block buildings and skyscrapers ruin the atmosphere of this ancient city. I kinda liked it but I might have a bad taste! :D
Bruges itself is pretty, maybe too pretty but definitely a very touristy "off-beat" location.
If you are considering other location, I'd highly recommend to get down to Brussels and Bruges and talk to some hostel owners. Maybe they could recommend some undiscovered gems for a hostel... ;)

I think that in that area the Amsterdam would be the best choice !
But you can not get a hostels licence in Amsterdam , because the market is overloaded with hostels .
That 's what I know from before , but I did not visit Amsterdam for a few years.
But still , if some hostel is on sale , then it would be very good idea to buy it there .
There is a low season there as well , but there are good week ends.
Amsterdam , would be my choice in the Beneluxe countries.
In Belgium , probably the Antverpen would be a good option.
A lot of tourists go there.

Leuven is a wonderful city, I lived there for 5 months. They have 2 hostels there, one newly opened. I would open one there in the oude markt if I had the money, a huge square of bars, it also has some amazing architecture.
Not that many tourist there but I think that should change soon.
:D
