Hey there,
I am starting a hostel from the scratch and I have many issues to take care of, one of them being the name itwill have. For me this is big deal as I believe the name is an equity for this industry. My hostel will be in Santiago, Chile and then the local language is the spanish. Is it important, in your opinion, the language in which the name is written? should I choose something in english, in spanish, or just a fantasy name?

Random idea: why not "La Cucaracha"? [por que ya no puede caminar :)]
I admit that "Cockroach" is a somewhat risky name, but do you really want humorless guests anyway?
Another random idea: "Cachái Hostel". It´s the most important word in Chile - any traveller must know it or never understand the locals.
Where in Santiago is your location?

When I was travelling in South America (10 years ago) all travellers spoke at least some Spanish - so I think an easy-to-remember name in English is not as important as in Europe.
There are more than 20 hostels already in Santiago - and most of them in quite good locations in the city center, Bellavista or Providencia. For new hostels, a very good location is a must. Location sells beds like nothing else.

Whatever you call it i would serious consider using the word backpackers and your location in the name. Makes life easier when trying to get quality links back to your website and get you good ranking in your location

good point, stayed in a really nice hostel in punta del diablo, uruguay. la casa des bois, was a bit of a mouthful... and took a couple of days for the name to sink in... the most popular hostel there is called, el diablo tranquilo... much easier to remember.
so, i'd say, don't be too clever... especially if it's in spanish.....

side note
depending on your local laws also think about tradmarking your name, last thing you want is someone else to register the name and then you are prohibited to use the name eventhough it was ur idea first
