Has anyone here been to Ethiopia? I was reading about it and it looks interesting.

Eritrea (which broke away from Ethopia 20 years ago) was featured in a German TV travel show a few months ago. I got the impression it´s an awesome destination - very cheap, very off-the-beaten-track, safe, it has fantastic beaches and stunning mountain scenery, too. Much of the city centers date from the time when it was an Italian colony and are very well preserved.

I used to work at a hostel with a guy from Eritrea, but he didn't talk about it much, except that they celebrate Christmas in January...

One of the trips we run. Last one was last year but may be the last due to damming of the river.

I read the other day that Ethiopia was never ruled by any government which is kinda cool. And that Starbucks is the local brand of coffee, if you want a starbucks gotta go someplace else.
And they've got freaking awesome long distance runners like Gebrselassie.
