So the problem is i have had lots of problems with the local authorities in Romania just getting the paper work right. I have not quite given up but it has been suggested instead of advertising as a hostel we advertise as a sheet renting business and throw the accomodation in for free. We would have to advertise as a sheet renting business in theory, i have heard of other hostels doing this has anyone else tried this to get around local authority bureaucracy / corruption.

What problems did you have exactly? Did he want you to buy his inspection? What govermental agency was that? Give us more details. The laundry renting thing sounds like a good plan. Its the way your guests see the business that makes it a hostel!

Well we have tried to get all the documents togeather but one problem after another and two years on. However the real problem at the moment is a member of the boarder police has moved in across the small road which seperates our propperty and he wants to close us down.
We got to a position where we really only needed a permission document from the town hall which is normaly issued within 24 hours so we submitted the document and everything seemed fine we handed over the right amount of coffee etc etc. Then the document didnt turn up and on enquirey we heard the local authority decided we didnt have permission to run a business in our hostel. We also heard our neighbour had been around the town hall pulling strings with his friends there and this was the reason the permission hadnt been issued. Then we got a message the main authority in Baia Mare wanted to fine us £1000.00 because we didnt have the correct papers also that our favourite policeman had been there crossing palms with silver. We havent paid the fine and i have absolutely no intention of doing so.:mad::mad:
But then this is Romania and while i hate the corruption theres little i can do about it.

well, there is little you can do in that situation, i recomend trying the laundry rental idea, it might work and he might not exactly know what you are up to unless he has somebody in the town hall inform him of everything you do or anything that anybody tries to do on your adress. In that case you shopuld find a new location. hope everything goes well.
