Great forum, so i will get down to the point. Our room are approx. 3.8(L)x2.8(W)x2.8(H) and i was planning to put in two bunk beds per room. My social sphere of influence is suggesting that its too cramped, and god forbid, just put two beds. Here i was excited of putting a three story bunk bed. Just wanted to get some feedback from the community before making a final decision. more photos and stuff are on my newly created fan page on facebook. Tiki Inn is name. hopefully the link will work.

I'm not sure what the general verdict on three story bunks, but I know from feedback I've had when asking around people that have been travelling, they tend to steer clear of them. I think if there's space for 2 beds, then there's space for 2 sets of bunks and that's still a good amount of beds in a room. If there's triple bunks, it might seem too crowded and you have to factor in that all those people will have luggage that they will want to put somewhere... :)

I think three-story bunks can work, but only in certain situations. In some cases in might give the hostel a "dorm factory" feel.
(By "dorm factory" I don't necessarily mean large hostels, but hostels that function in a way that makes it appear that they're only there to run travelers through an accommodation conveyor belt.)
Here is a nice hostel in Argentina that has three-story bunks that I thought worked well, especially because of the well-crafted bed construction:
Another hostel I've seen with three story bunks was in Japan. In that case it was necessary because of the tiny rooms.

My opinion (from a traveler's perspective) is that it's okay if it's done tastefully, in order to compensate for lack of space in the building, but if too many beds are crammed into one room it's not going to be pleasant for the guests.
