Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on how they gathered, relivent up-to-date statistics on their target market. I am currently looking to open a hostel and have narrowed down my search to a possability of 5 countries in the central and south America area, however before i can make a decision on where to set up I am trying to gain information about the number of backpackers visiting the area and my competitors.
There is obviously a lot more information available on hotels than there is on hostels. So far I have been trying to contact the tourist boards and census for each country to determine the number of tourists, how long on average they stay and the current occupancy levels of the established hostels but they are not responding to my emails and the information they have available on their websites is generally out-of-date.
How did other people manage when they were trying to decide their optimum location?
If anyone could shed some light I would be very grateful as I feel like I'm banging my head against a wall!
Thanks in advance
