Hi
Can Any one help we are after under bed storage lockers for our hostel bunk beds.
Can you recommend where to get them from and how much they are likely to cost

I usually see under-bed lockers as part of a complete unit (ie. sold together with the bed) but I know that you can buy them separately as well.

A Google search and came up with a few options. Depending on where your hostel is located, maybe one of these could help.

These guys are in Ireland
These guys are in the UK, although it looks like they are also in Ghana, so maybe they have multiple international branches
These guys are in Australia
These guys are in the US

As an alternative, you could hire a local carpenter or cabinet maker to build lockers for you (assuming that the idea of having wood in your dorms is acceptable to you). You could also buy small safes for each bed to lock up valuable items and bolt them into a wall or cupboard. Maybe there is a vocational school near you with welding classes. You might be able to get one of the students or the teachers to weld some metal lockers for you.

Your links were very helpful, I had a look at the others on there but I decided to go with www.heavydutybunkbeds.co.uk in the end as they offered the best customer service and the best value storage locker. I have already purchased bunk beds from them previously and I am very pleased with the quality and service I received. These are a new product that they didn't have, so I have been down to there new showroom and had a look today ( Wednesday ) and placed the order with them .

We are ordering simple custom-made underbed lockers at a local carpenter. It costs us $60 for 1800x800x35mm body with two lockers. We will have steel beds with wooden lockers underneath. It's just I thought a steel locker makes more sounds when you operate it.

Basing on your experience, guys, what works best on such lockers: a padlock or a simple locking mechanism with keys?

I think you have chosen correct as the price is very good! Metal lockers should not be noisy unless it is a steel box. a cage locker will be silent, allows the hostel owner to see inside (the guest may store stolen camera or something illegal), a cage does not need cleaning and does not allow odours to build up. Your wooden locker is good but very long 1,8 metres!! Make sure the locker has brace underneath to take excess weight and to stop bowing in the middle!! Add more wheels to take weight???

locks owned by the guest sometimes get left, then the hostel owner has to remove. It is best to supply padlock and keep master key, take $10 key deposit returned when guest hands back keys. Hope this has helped Raphael

it does help, thanks! our lockers' bottoms will actually lay on the floor, so i guess there won't be much bowing. anyway, i will reassess steel caged lockers now =]

Late to the party, but this may serve useful for other readers.
