Stockholm's jumbo jet hostel put up for sale
http://www.thelocal.se/20986/20090729/
The world's first jumbo jet hostel at Stockholm Arlanda Airport has been put up for sale just seven months after its opening under the attendant gaze of the world's media....
"Whether we sell it, bring in a partner or develop some sort of franchise arrangement, they are all possibilities," Diös said, while declining to put a price on any of the alternatives.
Diös told The Local that there are several interested parties both for the Arlanda hostel, and also for prospective venues for further jumbo jet hostels.

Has been an amazing PR the question is will it hold and bring enough guests,

I think it might work well to cut the wings and bottom off the plane and then put it across the top of a tall building (or two) -- right in the city with a great view. Looking out the window would be similar to flying. Maybe waterbeds in the private rooms?
The plane is probably lightweight.
It would make an interesting landmark in a city and could have a central location. :)

The idea to convert a Jumbo to a hostel isn´t bad, but the location is. Stockholm isn´t a very big backpacker destination to start with, has a terribly short summer season and Arlanda airport is just too far from the city.
It would have been a good idea to put the thing on Berlin´s old Schönefeld airport, which is very centrally located (for an airport), just a short underground ride from the center.
Another option would be to cut the wings off, put it on an old hull, so you could pull the thing to any city with a harbor - maybe London, Hamburg, Amsterdam?

i guess you're talking about the Tempelhof airport, which really is located almost in the city center... Schönefeld is still in use...
good idea, though.... ;)

err... yes. Tempelhof.
Cities with more than 1 airport confuse the hell out of me. :)

Speaking of Berlin... I guess an even better idea would be to convert a Jumbo to a club! The hull is fairly soundproof, so no fuss with neighbors. Passenger jets come with a good ventilation system and a/c as well, just what you need for a crowded place. In case of fire or panic, it could be evacuated in 90 seconds.
Put the thing on a ship hull and pull the whole thing to Berlin - somewhere on the Spree river near Oberbaumbrücke or Jannowitzbrücke would be a good location.

err... yes. Tempelhof.
Wasn't this the one which has been used for the support of West-Berlin during the Soviet blockade? That was helluva good job back in '48...
