Hello hostel managers/owners

HOW IT WORKS
Beddify is really simple for you and your guests.

Step 1
A potential guest gets in touch (email, Skype, phone) and wants to make a booking.

Step 2
You log in to Beddify and create a new booking. The guest receives a link in their email inbox and uses it to access our secure booking system.

Step 3
The guest enters their booking details and we authorize their payment card to secure the booking. The guest will pay on arrival in your specified currency.

This system will only authorize the payment, but not actually charge any money to the card. Is that correct? This instills a sense of commitment in the guest, ensures that at the time of booking there is enough money on the card for the stay, and it gives the hostel some recourse if the guest doesn’t show up.

This is geared toward hostels who either do not have a booking engine on their website or hostels who have a booking engine but find it too expensive, right?

Thanks for your reply.

1) Yes - Beddify will authorize the guest's card upto 5 days before their arrival date to ensure that the necessary funds are available but no funds are actually taken (just frozen) - the accommodation provider can then choose to claim back any amount up to the booking price if the guest does not show. This is all automated and very easy for the hostel to initiate. It is my understanding that hostels suffer considerably from no-shows as they are difficult to handle and guests have little reason (other than their 10% payment) to actually turn up on their arrival date. Hopefull Beddify can help in this area.

2) Currently if guests contact hostels directly for a booking it's likely that one of two things will happen - they will either point them in the direction of a booking engine and pay the 10% (or whatever it is) or they may try to handle the booking directly. Paypal is an option but it is very general purpose and doesn't provide the guest with the ability to view their booking, make amendments etc. And if payment was not taken before the arrival date they also have no guarantee that the guest will turn up.

Your comments are spot on Brian - I am hoping that hostel owners realise the potential in Beddify - they can start to make use of their own websites/social networking channels more and encourage private bookings. If just one booking of £100 were to be processed in a month via Beddify, the savings made would justify using Beddify.

Beddify has had a few tweaks and upgrades in the past few days.

I have upgraded/re-focused the online booking facility to concentrate on pre-payments for private bookings.
There will also be a statistical analysis service (called Insights) soon that allows hostel owners to better understand the impact of their social networking.
Finally, there will be an SMS service to allow hostel owners/staff to contact guests directly on their mobile phones directly from Beddify.
