Media Monkey is wonderful
the program is fantastic
Songbird and Windows Media Player have been giving me problems lately. Is it worth buying Media Monkey or is the free version good enough?
I have about 1400 cds that I am trying to store digitally on an external hard drive. Some are so old and have been played so often that I really need to replace them as they keep sticking.
The problem that I have come across is that it is difficult to catalogue them in a sensible way. If one uses Winamp or some other commercial application they seem tied into some organisation that is doing an amazingly bad job of organising albums by genre. For example, all my African and Celtic music automatically gets classed as Reggae!
Who is this organisation? Why can't they hire a few people who know a bit about music. Why do I have to be restricted to 148 or so genres (many that I have never heard of before!)? Why can't they have genres for African and Celtic music? Why is this organisation so AMERICAN - as though no music exists outside their closed minded little world?
Rant over!

The free features give you already everything you need. The paid version is just adding a bit more comfort.
But regarding that the author has probabely invested a lot of time and effort into this program it's really worth to pay 20 bucks just to say "Thank you for the work".
