There's a Wiki page about bed bugs and pest control that doesn't have any info yet.
Does anyone have recommendations for specific chemicals or procedures for bedbug control that we could add to the Wiki?

Chemicals mentioned previously include Pest Master and Solfac Pro.
Gordo had a good tip about rotating chemicals.
Any other tips? After I make a basic outline, anyone will be able to edit the Wiki page.

I do not think that thing will be very effective. Bed bugs are known to reside in the mattres and bed frame. They (bed bugs) do not travel far from where they live to where they feed, 2-3 feet at the most. As for the sticky trap idea, that is also a good idea in your kitchen to see if/or what kind of Roaches you may have. Dry storage is another good place for those sticky traps.

we fully renovated the existing rooms, ripped up the carpet, removed skirting boards etc, so that all the bugs vacated the accomodation, and went to my office,...
That's interesting... do you think designing a hostel without skirting boards is better for bedbug prevention?

im not sure. i think they are necesary to seal up the room, and protect the walls from damage, but if they are old or made badly, then i think bed bugs, fleas roaches and termites would love it. i guess its all a matter of doing things right and checking the property regularly. especially if your in my situation with your hostel in an old building.

From what I read one of the most important aspects to pest control is moving into a new or old building. Like you said they were their first, assume the worst, they are in every room of the building. Have you considered to call a Licensed Pest Control Operator to asses your building? Make sure your HK know how to look for the signs of Bb and they communicate effectively with management and staff.

In the past i have had a land managment business. The main part of the business was weed control in the Adelaide hills, australia. Part of the trying is to get a lic. to spray herbiceds and pesticedes.
The same problem occurs in both industries when dealing with pest. Not doing the job properly the first time. short cuts dont save money or time in the long run
the previous manager here just waved a can of bug spray around on the beds. The first time i came across them i did the beds,linen,quilts furniture. change our system of washing/handling to limit dirty linen infecting clean linen. i pulled up the edges of the carpet and had the carpets clean soon after. a lot of work but in 3 years i havent had a bug probelm. once i found a couple of bugs in a room. they must of come from a recent backpacker but it was easly taken care of because of previous work and weekly checks.
In regards to which chemical to use the most important thing is to rotate the type of chemical not the brand. if you change brands of spray they may still be using the same active ingrendent. Not doing this leads to ristents. it has happen with herbiceds such as round up(glyposphate). this has led to the loss of a very good herbiced and not be able to control certain weeds like you could ten years ago. There is plenty of information on the net about this. you should have a quick read of this and it will explan the problems of over use of a chemical

No, being in Greece it would be expensive and possibly illegal to ship these liquids. They do look good though.

Chris, if you are planning to join us for the 2nd backpacking tour on the Balkans, I could certainly get you some stuff from Prague! I suppose you would come by train in that case?
