Ever had a guest try to extract refunds or free things out of the hostel by threatening bad reviews, go to "health authorities" or other threats?
Example:
[INDENT]Hostel: I'm sorry, we can't refund your money, the policy is written there and we explained it when you checked in.
Guest: If you don't pay me my refund I'm going to write a terrible review on Tripadvisor and tell the health department I got bedbug bites at your hostel! [made-up story][/INDENT]
Has it happened to you and what do you do in that situation?

Actually we did have that at our old location. Total ars. He was being booted for being, well an ars and made the threats and had all the right department names to do it. Problem was we were clean and I threatened him with sending an email across Canada to every hostel if I had an anonymous visit by a health inspector, even if we passed with flying colours. He decided not to proceed after our discussion.

Almost never, but we often give refund before the guest even asks for it.
It´s simply not worth it to let anyone ruin your day with an argument over a few Euros. If somebody is unhappy with the product, why force him/her to buy it?
