Hey Everyone:
My hostel (Chicago Getaway Hostel) works with Expedia ... and I know that is pretty unpopular with most hostels because of the large commission that they take. But hey, we're 331 beds! We use them a lot during our slow season...because it is after all revenue- where there isn't much going on and I have empty rooms and beds. I'm wondering if anyone is getting a lower commission than us at 25%. I've tried to re-negotiate a few times...but they say 25% is the lowest they'll go...I'm wondering if that is true and if anyone is getting a lower structure. If you are, would you be willing to share what percentage you're paying?
We yield them out A LOT during the summer...so if we got a better commission we may be willing to keep them open longer. Thanks for any feedback.

That's interesting you use Expedia. Are you using them for your dorms, as well as privates, or privates only? A lot of the members here have mixed feelings about using Expedia, as the people using Expedia are not looking for hostels, and probably don't realise the difference between hostels and hotels. Do people understand that a hostel is different from a hotel when they book through Expedia?
It's also interesting to note you get a lot of business through them as well.
