In order to open a hostel in Boulder would you have to leave 40Berkeley, or would this be a project in conjunction with them?
I'm looking to start a hostel in Boulder, CO. There are currently NO hostels operating there, and marijuana was just legalized, so I'm anticipating a green rush. Despite the expected rush, Colorado is really the perfect place for a hostel. It has attractions year-round (national parks, hiking, climbing, skiing, etc.), and Boulder has the young, hip, cultured, artsy feel that backpackers crave.
I have a good deal of experience with hostel operations, travel, and tourism, but I'm in desperate need of investors and/or a solid partner that has some entrepreneurial experience and knows how to acquire funds for a project of this nature.
If you're interested, please email me (Bria Schecker) at [email protected].
Thanks for reading!

Hey Brian,
I'd probably end up leaving 40Berkeley, although I may eventually pitch to our owners here and see if they are interested in investing. Why do you ask?

For me, you're the face of 40Berkely. Maybe that's just because you're the only one I've met from your team. :) I was curious if the hostel was expanding or if this was your own project. Either way, I hope you get it up and running, because it sounds like a great location for a hostel.

Thanks for the encouragement and kind words Brian! I do love being part of the 40Berkeley team, but this just seems like the perfect time and place to branch out. I am planning the next WHC in Boston for next year though, so I probably won't plan to open until after that. :)

Absolutely! "Boulder" sounds like the perfect place to get stoned! :D
I suggest a Flintstone theme for your hostel. Why not call it "The Bedrock"?

As a Coloradan, I couldn't agree more! I have been considering opening something in Chile (currently living in Hanoi, Vietnam), but the recent legalization has drawn my attention back home. Having first-hand experience living in Boulder, I think you're spot on, but if remember correctly, there is a hostel operating already no? Not this would stop anyone else from entering the market. I can't say I have a wealth of experience, but I had two short stints where I managed a hostel bar in Berlin and was the manager of a hostel in Australia. I'd be willing to focus my entrepreneurial efforts towards Boulder, given the right deal. I have access to investor capital, and know people in building and renovation. Let me know what you can bring to the table and we can have a chat. Talk soon, Nick - [email protected]
