question to all hostel owners and workers,
if you were opening a hostel, would you look to purchase your own linen or would you just hire it?
total number of beds is 110.

One of the properties we have is 180 beds so to go off that... we have a small bar so not including staff for that we have:
1 manager
4 reception staff
2 night staff
2 1.5 travel staff
4 cleanersWe operate 24-7 so manager is on 5 days a week, 1 receptionist on an am shift one on a pm shift, 3 cleaners 1 travel staff. We put a few more on in peak seasons

What do the night staff do? Also, could you explain the "1.5" travel staff?

1 travel staff on full time the other one half time.
As far as night staff go, they handle late check-ins make sure the building is secure and perform auditing of the daily books, make sure guest were checked in properly and marketing info was taken correctly, fill out various reports, reconcile the daily takes and get all the money sorted for banking.
It takes some training and trust but with the right procedures in place it works well and again frees up more of the managers time to concentrate on putting bums in beds

well-
an hostel with 110 beds with 80%occumpancy is 88 linen (176 sheet), washing them with an average of 4 times per week is 88x4=352x4 weeks= 1.408pound (the average of 50p per sheet).
well i ws one of the people to think it was better to wash in instead to sent out but IF the cost at the end of the month is like that im pretty agree to work with a laundrette...can anyone confirm this really quikly done calculation? how much do u spend per sheet?
