I am wondering about this also. Seems like paying to get your own bookings in the end - with a lot more steps (and commissions) to pay on the way. Would love to hear from any hostels out there benefitting from TripConnect.
I've heard that Trip Connect could be a game changer - helping hostels avoid commission-based booking engines. For a fee of course. Anyone using it? Thoughts? Cost? Worth it?
Thanks

I've looked into it and the problem I see is that the OTAs will almost inevitably have the clout to outbid you for placement. I'm not saying it's not worth it, but it's one factor to be aware of.
I think a TripAdvisor business listing is definitely worth it though (I'm currently trying to convince the owner to do this).

Is this the ~$2,500/year fee for getting some links to your own site and email address on the Tripadvisor listing?

The fee for the business listing varies depending on the size of your property and the amount of traffic your TripAdvisor page gets. I've found that if you talk to them about the price they seem to be happy to negotiate a discount.
